Smart healthcare initiative attracting Australia-wide attention

Australia’s Dzign Diezel Group (DDG) has developed a customised online application that is set for roll-out across Victorian hospitals and healthcare facilities. With a buzz of interest interstate and beyond, PROMPT appears to have a global market well within its reach.

Although it sounds like just another administrative system, PROMPT helps medical teams perform better and therefore has the capacity to optimise crucial healthcare resources and improve care quality.

PROMPT was created to help hospital environments better manage their protocols and procedures. Previously, each facility developed its own set of protocols. With PROMPT, healthcare personnel have immediate and 24/7 access to not only their own procedures but also those of other organisations on the system.

PROMPT enables even small rural hospitals with limited resources to access specialist knowledge right across the network. Currently there are more than 5,000 documents uploaded and available on the system via a Google-like search facility.

Initially funded by the Department of Human Services and developed for Barwon Health by DDG, PROMPT was trialled at Geelong Hospital and has quickly become critical to the professional culture there. It has since been deployed across several other hospitals in the Barwon South Western Region.

Following positive findings from an independent evaluation report, the State Government is considering a roll-out of PROMPT to other hospital, healthcare and aged care facilities in Victoria. Royal Darwin Hospital has adopted the system and the NT Government is considering a wider roll-out, too.

According to Dr Charlie Corke, Barwon Health’s Intensive Care Specialist who worked closely with DDG during the development of PROMPT, “This solution saves valuable time and gives healthcare personnel immediate access to standardised, up-to-date information and procedures. They now have critical information when and where they need it.”

Dr Corke is confident that PROMPT has international reach. “Prompt is the first of its kind to specifically address the issues in healthcare environments. Hospitals everywhere have the same problems with managing their protocols so are very likely to welcome an effective solution,” he said.
